Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (8-4, 1-1 SSC) picked up its first SSC victory of the season at home Wednesday evening in a 79-68 rout of the Florida Tech Panthers (10-5, 1-2 SSC). It is the team’s fifth straight win.

Alex Gynes (Sr., Nowra, Australia) led the way with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. He finished a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line and picked up two assists. One night after setting his career-high, Robert Huntington (Jr., Perth Australia) scored a game-high 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor.

NSU established its lead midway through the first half and never gave it back. Tied at 18, the Sharks went on a 14-2 run to take control of the ball game. They would lead by as much as 19 points in the opening period and enter the break leading, 44-27.

The Sharks shot 48 percent from the floor in the first half and appeared to be coasting towards their eighth victory of the season. Huntington scored 14 points in the half while John Brooks (Sr., Perris, Calif.) shot 3-for-3 from downtown.

The second half was a struggle offensively for the Sharks as they shot 8-for-24 in the period. Their double digit lead was cut in half within the first six minutes but the Sharks were able to maintain the advantage throughout the period. The Sharks relied on their defense as they held the Panthers to 29 percent shooting in the second half. Over the final seven minutes, the Sharks’ only field goals came from Teddy Tassy (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla.) who drained two three-pointers.

Lemar Dyer (Sr., Miami, Fla.) proved to have ice in his veins down the stretch as he shot 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the second half. They finished the game holding Florida Tech to a season-best 30 percent shooting.

Tassy, Lukas Roesch (So., Sugar Grove, Ohio), Max Papendieck (Sr., Adelaide, Australia) all collected six points in the win. Ross Allsop (Sr., Sydney, Australia) pulled down five rebounds and blocked the 100th shot of his career.

The Sharks will stay at home to play Saint Leo this Saturday, Jan. 8 at 4 p.m.
